Dyeing: College Style.
Colors used: violet and royal blue wilton gel frosting dyes.
Notes: red dye does not react well with vinegar.
This is what I’m currently spinning at the moment. I probably should have mentioned this earlier, but I spin with a drop spindle (which I love love love). Wheels are too expensive and large for my current college student life style but some day!
This is from the same cheap-as-I-could-find wool as the turquoise yarn. I used Wilton gel icing dye and a microwave to dye this stuff. The colors definitely came out stronger than the other run I did and I plan on continuing to experiment with the dye/water/vinegar ratio to achieve deeper colors.
I’m going to start documenting my spinning, because I really like looking at yarn, and I thought I would share my yarn with all of you! Most of these will be in balls because I’m using them for various projects, but generally I keep my spinning in skeins until I use it.
This particular sample is the latest thing I’ve spun. It’s wool, the cheapest wool I could find. I dyed it myself using gel icing dyes and a microwave. The colors are significantly more green and muted in real life than they look in this picture. Overall, I’m really quite pleased with the results of my first dyeing experiment.
